Jones & Sons Dalston, Veggie Sunday Roast

Ricotto, spinach & mushroom wellington

For the first review of a Veggie Sunday Roast we headed down to Jones&Sons, Dalston.

Food

The trimmings where all there but not in great quantity. Roast potatoes not very roasted but the Yorkshire was massive & well cooked.

Veggie roast elements

Wellington

A nicely sized slice of  wellington containing mushrooms, spinach & Ricotta. This worked well with the dish but maybe beans or lentils would of been a descent replacement for the cheese. Although tasty it felt more like something you’d have cold with a salad.

Gravy

Hats off for the attempt but the gravy didn’t feel like it belonged to anything on the plate. I couldn’t figure out what it was but might of been a thickened batch of Swiss Vegetable Bouillon or similar. Maybe if the pan used for the mushrooms / onion (or any other roasted vegetables) could of been deglazed with a glass of wine and some light stock.

Drinks

Nice selection of wines and carafes available. We went for the Viognier, 375ml for £11 which just about lasted the starter & mains.

Atmosphere

A nice converted warehouse and factory space with high ceilings. A large bar running along the side and an even bigger room towards the back. There’s also tables outside in the courtyard.

The space is really open and when busy is very noisy. Could do with some separation or softer materials to reduce the volume.

Price

A decent plate of food for £13. £2 – £5 cheaper than the meat roasts.

Service

We were served by a few different people and had no issues. Took a while for the starters to come out. Booking was in the system for 30 minutes later than requested.
